ABOUT TEXAS HOUSE SPEAKER RACE
Description: The Texas House Speaker is elected by the Texas House of Representatives.
The Democrat party caucuses to decide on a single candidate, the Republicans (for the first time) will be doing the same this year.
The vote on the House floor is the first vote the House casts, this year it will be on January 11th, 2010.

Most tea parties and many conservative groups are demanding a more conservative speaker in this legislative session. They want legislation that was not passed in the last session such as Voter ID. Many of the groups that grade or rate House members are county the first vote (speaker) as one half their grade.
Citizens are encouraged to contact their Texas House members and demand a new speaker. Citizens can also show support for a new speaker by signing the letter to the House Members and Members-Elect at http://conservativespeakermandate.com/.
