Scott Boston Here is Ginny Kruta's take on the issue via Resist 44. http://resist44.com/tolerance-in-regards-to-chicken
You would think that the world revolved around chicken sandwiches. Seriously. Nowhere in America is there a news outlet or social media site that has not addressed the publicity that now surrounds fast food chain Chik Fil A. It started innocently enough with Chik Fil A CEO Dan Cathy giving an interview to the Baptist Press. Causing all of the buzz is the comment Cathy made concerning the corporation’s position on marriage – Chik Fil A has long supported, both verbally and financially, groups and charities that promote traditional (one man and one woman) marriage. When asked if the company supported heterosexual marriage, Cathy replied, “Guilty as charged.” And then, the boycotts. The insults. The Muppets even dropped Chik Fil A. Roseanne Barr, who has since apologized, tweeted that anyone who patronized Chik Fil A deserved to get cancer. Student groups circulated petitions to have Chik Fil A removed from campuses. Mayors in Boston, Philadelphia, and Chicago called for city-wide bans on Chik Fil A restaurants and even called for the removal of Dan Cathy as the head of the company. Rahm Emanuel (Mayor of Chicago) explained that the values expressed by the Chik Fil A CEO did not reflect “Chicago values.” (That may actually be a good thing, as “Chicago values” have a tendency to land people in prison…) As with all other important political issues, this one quickly settled on Facebook and Twitter. Half joking, I made the following comment on my Facebook page: I support Americans in their right to boycott things. I personally refuse to buy Heinz products because I don’t think John Kerry needs any more money. That said, the Chik Fil A nonsense is being blown way out of proportion. People are taking the CEO’s words, “I support traditional marriage,” and twisting them to make it look like the entire corporation is somehow anti-gay. The response was as swift as it was venomous. At first it was just implied that I was stupid. I was informed that, if I knew all of the horrible anti-gay (pro-traditional marriage) causes Chik Fil A supported, I would stop eating there as well. Then it was implied that I was intolerant, callous, and a bigot. If you care at all about Civil Rights, then you will not support this disgraceful company. And then the gloves came off… I hope you never find yourself on the receiving end of discrimination like that which you condone. It must be because I’m a human with emotions that I believe it’s horribly depressing to tell two people who love each other that they can’t get married. Keep your religion out of my chicken…F@*$ the Bible. You’re cold as ice…glad you’re not in charge of who can get married. You’re no different than the people who argued for racial segregation. After that, I responded one last time: I’m inhuman, unemotional, stupid, and mean. Did I miss anything? What you’re saying is that, because I have an opinion that differs from yours, I deserve ridicule and insults? If that’s what tolerance is, I want no part of it.
